When Pokerrito opened in downtown Vancouver in 2016, we wanted to do something different with poke. Our answer was a little flame, and we were the first to bring torched fish to the poke bowl. Today, torched poke is still our signature, and it is the reason many guests come back for a warm bowl instead of a cold one.
What is torched poke?
Torched poke is a poke bowl where the fish is briefly finished with a flame before it goes on your rice. The result is a warm, lightly charred bite with a richer, smoky flavour. It still feels like poke, with fresh toppings and sauces, but it eats warmer and a little more savoury.
How is it different from raw poke?
Classic poke is served cold and raw. Torched poke keeps the same bowl format but changes the temperature and the flavour. Many guests who are new to poke tell us the warm version is an easier place to start, while regular poke fans like the extra depth it brings.
Is it the same as aburi sushi?
Aburi is a well known Japanese sushi style that also uses a flame. Our torched poke borrows that idea and brings it to the poke bowl, where you can build your own meal with rice, vegetables and sauces. Aburi sushi is usually served as pressed pieces. Torched poke is served as a bowl or wrapped in a sushi burrito.
What should I order first?
Torched Warm Bowl: the classic Pokerrito warm bowl.
Aburi Bowl: a bowl inspired by aburi style flavour.
Torched Ahi Tuna: a simple, rich fish bowl.
Sushi burrito: something you can eat on the go.
Menu items can change by store, so check your nearest location before you order. You can also see all of our Torched Warm Bowls, or read our guide to torched, grilled and bulgogi options.
Covered by local media since the beginning
Local food media wrote about our flame seared fish when we opened in 2016, including coverage in Daily Hive and The Straight. Torched poke has been part of Pokerrito from the start, and we were the first to serve it this way.
Where can I try it?
You can find Pokerrito in Vancouver, Burnaby, Surrey, Coquitlam and Toronto. Find your nearest store on our locations page, then order for pickup or delivery.
Torched. Warm. Fresh. That is Pokerrito.
